About Us

Introduction

Founded in 1993, we welcome students from all over the UK and the World. We are a Delegated Authority for City and Guilds. Hibernia College is privileged to reside in the Centre for Science and Art in the centre of Stroud. This historic building has been dedicated to fostering the inter-relationship of science and art.

Our facilities include artistic studios, classrooms and a library. The work of Hibernia College is inspired by Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) and the work that has evolved from his research into anthroposophy.

Hibernia College

Hibernia College aims to provide high quality education and research in the field of art therapy and related health and educational studies based on an integrated Anthroposophic approach.

From its inception this approach to medicine and therapies has been complimentary to education, conventional medicine and therapeutic models and is not an alternative to them.

Art Therapy

Steiner was interested in finding ways to connect with the spiritual aspects of the human being in everyday life and described many methods for achieving this. This learning has been applied in a wide range of disciplines including medicine, art, education, agriculture, philosophy, science and the social sciences.

Hibernia College offers a range of shorter and longer courses for personal and professional development including Continuing Professional Development. Its courses share a common foundation, an anthroposophical understanding of health, personal development and art.

Hibernia College works in collaboration with the Medical Section of the Anthroposophical Society at the Goetheanum, Dornach, Switzerland and is a founder member of the European Academy for Anthroposophical Art Therapy Trainings, which was set up to provide quality control, research and development for the member trainings.

Our tutors are practising professionals in their various fields of expertise. These include practising gallery artists, medical doctors, art therapists and experts in education. Many have higher degrees, or are published or lecture widely in England and internationally. They place special attention on meeting with each student and supporting them in their own particular path of progress.
